FAQs

How much does your chicken cost?

We currently stock three varieties of birds, the local Kampung(KG) chicken, broiler(BR) and featherless neck(FN). BR and FN is sold at RM15 per kilo live weight while KG is sold at RM18 per kilo. All chickens are delivered dressed and frozen.

Why are your chickens so expensive?

We do not think for a moment that our chickens are cheap, however it is certainly not expensive when compared to similiar quality currently available in the market. For those who has this false assumption, we do request your understanding in visiting the local markets to do some comparison on your own. We are certain that you will discover that far from being expensive, our chickens are really good value for money and definitely affordable. Our goal is to provide you with the best remains, providing you with the cheapest isn't what we had in mind when we started our farm.

What do you mean by live weight?

Live weight is the weight of the live bird before processing; it basically refers to the total weight of the chicken inclusive of the blood, feathers, head, neck, innards and feet which are removed prior to packing. To arrive at dressed weight, deduct approximately 33% from the live weight.

What does the initials FN, KG and BR written on the packaging means?

FN stands for featherless neck variety, KG for the malaysian kampung and BR means a great tasting broiler.

Do you do deliveries? What is the minimum order?

We do deliveries to Klang Valley and various parts of Selangor. Please do contact us if your area is covered. There is no minimum order however a delivery surcharge of RM3 is charged for orders of 1-2birds. This delivery surcharge is waived for orders exceeding 2 birds.

Why don’t you supply chilled chickens instead of frozen ones?

We do not supply chilled chickens as we want you to get fresh chickens as we intended it to be. Freezing is the best way to maintain freshness and for you to store your purchases till you need to cook it. Please refer to Knowledge page for storage information.

How is it that your kampong chickens aren’t as chewy as the ones I bought from the local market? How come they are larger than the ones I get from the market?

Contrary to popular beliefs, tough, chewy meat does not indicate ‘original’ kampong chicken. This explanation is a little bit long but I’ll try to keep it as short and simple as possible. The kampong birds that you get from us is simply larger due to the fact that they get fed well as opposed to the typical kampong chickens that roams around the house compounds of many kampong homes scavenging with little success for food. Our chickens are fed twice a day and allowed to roam the entire 4 acres or so of land filled with trees and vegetation, so they practically feed the whole time they are awake. Due to the fact that they roam all over the place, they are able to build strong muscle tissues from the protein intake, this in turn leads to the common misconception that this means tough meat. The question of whether the meat is tough is due to the processing and handling the birds upon slaughter and nothing to do with misconception that due to the exercise, ‘original’ kampong chicken must be tough to chew on. For a start, every living thing that dies goes into rigor mortis, this basically means all the muscle tissues are stiffened as a result of muscle protein coagulation soon after death. Our chickens, all varieties are tender and juicy with a nice bite to it, not soft and mushy due to the simple fact that we take the trouble to do aging. An aged chicken is tastier and more tender as compared to a chicken that cooked or frozen soon after being killed. We start cooling the birds in ice water right after the main feathers are removed, this also helps to prevent bacteria from multiplying too quickly, once the birds as cleaned properly, they are dripped dry, vacuum packed before being chilled at between 2-6 degree Celsius for at least 16-24hrs before it is frozen. This means higher cost for us but this is also the proper way to ensure that you get the best. We wish to emphasize here that we bleed our chickens properly to prevent the contamination of the meat from blood. I assure you that the chicken seller at the wet market doesn’t do all the above. One visit to your local wet market will help you understand what we mean.

Are your chickens better for health?

We would like to think that our chickens are crucial for your health but we have to say that health of an individual for the most part is dependant on many factors and nutrition is just one component albeit a important one. Your lifestyle, outlook in life and many other factors all play a role in determining how healthy you are. However we can safely assure you that our chickens are certainly one contributing factor to your well being for obvious reasons. Our chickens are raised in freedom, this means significantly lower fat, as a matter of fact there is none if not negligible fat between the muscle tissues.

How heavy are your chickens? Why can’t I specify the weight that I want?

A typical bird will weight from 1.8 to 2.5 kilograms while larger and more mature birds can weight up to 3-3.8 kilos. We wish we could accommodate all request for specific weights but in reality it is next to impossible. You can request the approximate size and weight of the chickens you require and we assure you that we will try our very best to meet that requirement, usually within 100-300grams variance.

Why is it your chickens cost more that the ones in the supermarkets?

The reasons are obvious but anyway, the chickens available in the market from the commercial poultry farms take between 28-45 days to get to the market while ours are totally 'natural' taking at least 3-4months. We do not wish to highlight the practices of commercial poultry farms here but if you really need to know I am sure a bit of poking and searching on Google will turn up interesting reads. Our birds are free ranged meaning they are not confine to just eat all the time but allowed to move, exercise, roam and forage for insects and vegetation. We spend more time and feed on them. In short you got to taste it to tell the difference. Sad but people do not think twice about spending a lot on fast food and hawkers but are apprehensive about getting good quality stuff for their family. Having said that, pricing of chicken sold as 'choi yuen kai' at the local market is similiar if not higher and you do not know if it is authentic.

How come I can’t find your chickens in the local supermarkets?

Our farm came about from the desire to be self sufficient and to live a healthier and meaningful life, our chickens are raised principally for our family and close friends but since we have 8 acres of land at our disposal we have decided to make available the extras. Having said that, our present size does not permit further expansion and we have no intention for turning the present operation to one of purely commercial interest so No! We have no intention of placing our limited produces in supermarkets.

What about Organic Certification?

As we have noted, our produce is mainly for our families, friends and close referals, our land does not permit for us to produce a lot without compromising on quality, besides it is not our intention to produce a lot as we value our current lifestyle. We have no intention to apply for any form of certification at the present moment. Please do contact us if you require further clarification on this matter.

Can I visit your farm?

While we value good company, we regret that at the present moment we are unable to accomodate request to visit the farm as it is not advisable for us to expose our livestock to possible pathogen brought in from other areas. Furthermore we do not employ external help in running the farm hence our extremely limited time to play host to visitors. However we would be most glad to share images of our farm and other information which you may require from time to time. We trust we have your understanding on the matter. Thank you.
